3 photos to take after a car accident

Motor vehicle accidents happen at an almost alarming rate in the United States. In fact, there are more than 6 million car crashes every single year. Regrettably, many individuals lose their lives or sustain serious injuries in these automobile accidents.

Recovering from a collision often takes a significant amount of time, money and effort. Fortunately, if another driver’s negligence or intentional conduct caused the accident, you can likely seek compensation for your injuries. To do so, you must carefully document the accident and its aftermath.

Here are three types of photographs you should take after a car accident, provided you can do so without endangering yourself or others:

  1. The entire accident scene

You likely have police reports, witness statements and your own account to show how the accident unfolded. Still, photographs often tell a more complete story. Therefore, snap some photos of the entire accident scene, including roads, weather conditions, traffic signs, traffic patterns and other relevant subjects.

  1. All involved vehicles

Photographing the damage to all vehicles is critical for a couple of reasons. First, it captures the severity of the damage. More importantly, though, it sheds light on how the accident happened. For example, if there is damage to the rear of one vehicle and the front of another, the accident was likely a rear-end collision.

  1. Your injuries

You should always see a doctor after a car accident. After all, you may have hidden injuries that are not immediately apparent. You should also photograph your injuries. Creating a photographic record of your recovery process is also a good idea.

Digital photographs are easy to take, store and erase. As such, when documenting a car accident, you should always take more photographs than you think you need. Nonetheless, by understanding which types of photos often make a meaningful difference in a personal injury claim, you increase your chances of receiving fair compensation for your injuries and property damage.
